IT’S a Festival of Football at Sydney Olympic Park this December with back-to-back A-League blockbusters now confirmed for Stadium Australia.

The Western Sydney Wanderers will face rivals Melbourne Victory on Saturday 10 December – the second of their five scheduled games at Sydney’s Olympic stadium for the 2016/17 A-League season.

The FFA has further advised that Sydney FC’s monster clash against Melbourne City has been locked in at Stadium Australia for Friday 9 December with FC’s regular home ground, Allianz Stadium, unavailable that weekend.

The fixture update creates a tantalising Sydney v Melbourne weekend double-header, which will be supported by football community and family activities in Sydney Olympic Park across the weekend.

The Sydney FC match will also see the return of Tim Cahill to Stadium Australia with the Socceroos now confirmed as a Melbourne City player.

Stay tuned for ticket details for the two matches in coming weeks.

The 2016/17 Hyundai A-League action kicks off at Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday 8 October with the much anticipated Sydney Derby in Round 1.

The blockbuster fixture will be the first ever Sydney Derby held at Stadium Australia and is being hotly tipped to smash the existing A-League all-time attendance record of 54,436.

Given Melbourne Victory currently hold the all-time (Grand Final) and regular-season crowd records with 54,436 and 50,333 against Adelaide United and Sydney FC respectively, the Western Sydney Wanderers now have the opportunity to set two new attendance benchmarks with the Stadium Australia game on 8 October.

Of course Sydney FC and the Western Sydney Wanderers will also feature in two of the biggest sporting events of 2017 when they line up against English Premier League giants Arsenal on Thursday 13 July and Saturday 15 July respectively. Both blockbusters will be played at Stadium Australia.
