  • FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony & Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony were among the nominations for this award
  • Feld Entertainment chose the Sydney show ahead of over 350 Monster Jam presentations around the globe in 2014
  • Stadium Australia also a finalist at 2015 World Sports Technology  Awards

SYDNEY’S Stadium Australia has once again been recognised on the international stage – winning a major award at the 2015 International Stadium Business Awards in Barcelona.

At a glittering function at Camp Nou Stadium in Barcelona, Stadium Australia management was the recipient of the award for Guest Event of the Year, in partnership with Feld Entertainment, for the 2014 Monster Jam sports action spectacular held in Sydney.

To provide some context regarding the award’s significance, other nominees included the 2014 FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony in Brazil and the 2014 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony.

The International Stadium Business Awards recognises the best of the global sports venue business.

Stadium Australia Managing Director, Daryl Kerry, said his team was humbled to win such a prestigious award.

“Feld Entertainment is the largest family entertainment company in the world, having conducted more than 5000 shows across six continents in 75 countries to over 30 million people each year. Feld showcased the Stadium Australia presentation of the Monster Jam show as its premier event ahead of over 350 other Monster Jam shows the company promoted in 2014,” Mr Kerry said.

“It has been a big year at Stadium Australia, which has already welcomed more than 1 million fans through the gates to see 29 events including major events such as the AFC Asian Cup, the Foo Fighters concert, Holden State of Origin Game I, and back-to-back visits by English Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea FC.

“Still to come are Bledisloe Cup, AFL and NRL Finals and the NRL Grand Final, and massive concerts featuring rock legends AC/DC and pop queen Taylor Swift.

“And the Stadium will soon announce at least one other major upcoming event . . . the return of Monster Jam in 2015. Standby for details.”

Mr Kerry said the award presented in Barcelona on Thursday was a credit to the team at Stadium Australia and “recognises our ongoing commitment to ensuring that all of our hirers are provided with outstanding service from the time an event is negotiated and signed, planned, sold and ultimately delivered”.

The criteria for Guest Event of the Year stated: “For the best non-sports event, guest event, concert or one off spectacle held at a major sports venue in the last 12 months.

“This award recognises the event’s host venue, and thus entries should reference why the venue’s management/operational team deserves special recognition for their delivery.”

Earlier this year, Stadium Australia was also shortlisted as a Finalist at the 2015 World Sports Technology Awards after implementing a digital innovation, the Telstra Connected Stadium Lounge in 2014. The joint entry by Telstra, Stadium Australia and global design company Populous was named as one of six finalists in the category Best use of Technology by a Venue, Arena or Stadium.

Feld Entertainment and Stadium Australia will soon release details of the upcoming Monster Jam 2015 show. More than 56,000 fans witnessed the event last year – an event now recognised by international judges as the best Guest Event of the Year anywhere in the world.
