Sydney Gears Up for Week of Sporting Blockbusters

ONE of the biggest weeks of sport on the 2016 calendar is here with Stadium Australia hosting a mighty week of sporting blockbusters.

From Wednesday 1 June to Saturday 4 June Sydney will be bouncing as some of world’s biggest sporting stars come to town.

Sydney’s whirlwind #WeekOfBlockbusters includes:

More than 130,000 fans are expected through the gates at Stadium Australia for the back-to-back games of elite sport.

Holden State of Origin Game I

Game I of the 2016 Holden State of Origin series will see Laurie Daley’s squad return to their spiritual home at Stadium Australia, with the Blues determined to take back the Shield and restore the pride of NSW.

The legendary pre-Origin party will once again be a huge part of the day with The Sheds in Cathy Freeman Park as the focus. With a monster marquee, a 50m bar and a host of entertainment including live music and a visit by 20 Blues legends, The Sheds is the place to be from 4pm.

Blatchys Blues ticket holders will be able to pick up their wigs and t-shirts from The Sheds.

The Dodoni Series: Caltex Socceroos v Greece

Just three days later the Socceroos will step onto the Stadium Australia pitch for the first time since their sensational 2015 AFC Asian Cup triumph to take on one of Europe’s great footballing nations, Greece.

While the Socceroos will enjoy huge home nation support as they prepare for the next stage of World Cup qualifying matches, there is sure to be plenty of sky blue and white in the stadium as Greece will have the backing of a large and passionate Greek Australian community.

The football festivities will kick-off early in Sydney Olympic Park with a Greek-style party set to light up the precinct with food, drink and football activities from 5pm.
