Transport authorities are urging fans to plan their trip, leave additional travel time and arrive early for a mega concert weekend at Sydney Olympic Park.
More than 115,000 fans are expected at Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday 4 March with three blockbuster concerts on the same night. In excess of 70,000 fans each night are on the way to see golden boy Harry Styles at Accor Stadium on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 March.
Sydney WorldPride concludes this weekend with several major events in the Sydney CBD and Bondi to draw the curtains on the festival.
Transport for NSW Chief Operations Officer Howard Collins urged everyone to plan their trips, no matter where they were headed this weekend.
“We urge ticketholders to use public transport where possible, because heavy traffic is expected around venues and parking is limited – so, leave the car at home,” Mr Collins said.
“Public transport travel to and from the Harry Styles concerts at Accor Stadium and three WorldPride events – the Pride March, Bondi Beach Party and Rainbow Republic – is made even easier with the cost of transport included in event tickets.
“Attendees just need to show their event ticket or wristband to Transport for NSW staff when boarding services.
“For concert-goers, Sydney Olympic Park car parks are sold out on both Friday 3 and Saturday 4 March. Fans who haven’t pre-booked parking can use one of the many commuter car parks at key stations and continue their trip by train or bus to Sydney Olympic Park.”
Mr Collins said there would be plenty of additional public transport services for the Harry Styles concerts and Sydney WorldPride closing events.
“For concert-goers we’ll have plenty of frequent trains and major event buses running to and from Sydney Olympic Park,” Mr Collins said.
“So, don’t get caught in traffic and miss a second of any Sydney WorldPride events or Sydney Olympic Park concerts this weekend. With additional services running, public transport is the best way to get there and get home afterwards.
“Concert-goers should plan to arrive early to avoid the increased demand on public transport and heavy traffic, particularly during the busy Friday evening peak. Queuing should also be expected for services as customers head home each night.
“There are many venues to enjoy in the Sydney Olympic Park precinct before and after each concert. Gates open from about 5pm for each show so aim to arrive early. Avoid delays exiting car parks and queues for transport services after the shows – many venues are extending night-time trading.”
