POLICE are urging footy fans to behave responsibly at the second game of State of Origin 2018 in Sydney tomorrow.
More than 80,000 fans are expected to converge on Stadium Australia at Olympic Park to cheer on the New South Wales Blues as they take on the Queensland Maroons.
A high-visibility police operation will be in place to ensure everyone can enjoy the game in a safe, secure, and family-friendly environment.
South West Metropolitan Region Commander, Assistant Commissioner Peter Thurtell, said everyone should be able to enjoy the event safely.
“State of Origin has moved to a Sunday night for the first time so we want to ensure people have a safe and enjoyable night with large crowds moving around the Olympic Park precinct,” Assistant Commissioner Thurtell said.
“Additional police will be rostered on so if you’re attending the game, be on your best behaviour because if you misbehave, you risk being arrested.
Security guards will also assist police to target anti-social behaviour, alcohol-related crime, and conduct bag searches, no different from any other event at the venue.
“To avoid delays, don’t bring a bag unless you have to, and plan to arrive early to assist with the security checking process when entering the stadium,” Assistant Commissioner Thurtell said.
Spectators are reminded that public transport to and from the match is included in their ticket price.
“State of Origin is an integrated ticketing event, so we encourage fans to leave the car at home, and use the extra trains and Olympic Park Major Event Buses that will be running,” Assistant Commissioner Thurtell said.
“Officers from Police Transport Command will be patrolling the public transport network to keep the area safe for commuters and members of the general public.
“If you must drive, allow extra time and expect delays while driving both to and from Sydney Olympic Park.”
