NRL Super Season Confirmed at ANZ Stadium with a Record 35 Club Games in 2017

  • Five famous Sydney NRL clubs to play a total of 35 regular-season matches at Stadium Australia
  • Seven Sunday afternoon games confirmed at the Stadium in the first 20 rounds
  • Bulldogs and Eels to host back-to-back  clashes for the Easter Footy Fest on April 14 and 17

AN unprecedented 35 NRL regular-season matches, a Round 1 blockbuster with star Rabbitohs recruit Robbie Farah up against his old club the Tigers, seven Sunday afternoon games already confirmed, and an Easter Footy Fest that will feature the biggest crowds of the season in Sydney.

The NRL’s much-awaited 2017 Telstra Premiership draw has delivered a stack of mouth-watering Sydney v Sydney match-ups at Stadium Australia, but none bigger than the back-to-back Easter classics in Round 7.

It’s Bulldogs v Rabbitohs on Good Friday 14 April, and Eels v Tigers on Easter Monday 17 April – both kicking off at a family-friendly 4pm.

The first 20 rounds of the Premiership have been released, with the final six rounds to be confirmed later in the season.

Sydney’s major events Stadium will play host to nine South Sydney Rabbitohs home games, nine Canterbury-Bankstown games, 11 Parramatta Eels matches, four Wests Tigers games and two home games for the St George Illawarra Dragons.

2014 Premiers the South Sydney Rabbitohs open the 2017 season at Stadium Australia with star off-signing signing Robbie Farah lining up against his former club Wests Tigers in a colossal Friday Night Football game on 3 March (8pm kickoff). 

The mighty Eels kick off their new home ground arrangement at Stadium Australia with a Round 4 Saturday night biggie against reigning premiers the Cronulla Sharks on 25 March – a game that will double as the Johnny Mannah Cup match.

The Bulldogs’ first home game at Stadium Australia is a Round 5 Thursday night clash against Brisbane Broncos on 30 March.

The following Sunday will see the Tigers play the first of their four home games at Stadium Australia – against the Dragons (4pm).

The Dragons’ first home game at Stadium Australia is an attractive Round 13 Saturday afternoon clash against the Tigers on 3 June (3pm).

An added bonus for Rabbitohs and Dragons fans is the annual Charity Shield clash, which will kick off the season in Sydney on Sunday afternoon 19 February.

The feast of NRL footy is a boon for Stadium Australia Members, Corporate Clients and supporters of all five famous clubs that call Sydney’s Olympic Stadium home, as the vast majority of the match-ups between these clubs will feature reciprocal membership access rights for both competing clubs.

Fans who enjoy nothing better than afternoon NRL footy are in for a treat in season 2017, with no fewer than seven Sunday afternoon games confirmed for Stadium Australia in the first 20 rounds – including Round 5 Tigers v Dragons on 2 April, Round 15 Eels v Dragons on 18 June, and Round 20 Tigers v Eels on 23 July.

“But with so many Sunday afternoon and Saturday afternoon or twilight games already confirmed, families with young children are well catered for.

“The stage is set for a fantastic 2017 NRL Telstra Premiership season.”
