GET ready to Ride the Lightning Sydney, because rock legends Metallica have confirmed their long-awaited return!
The metal megastars are bringing their WorldWired Tour to Stadium Australia on Saturday 26 October, joined by special guests Slipknot.
The newly announced concert is Metallica’s first ever headline stadium show in Australia and continues the WorldWired Tour that has played 130+ shows across the world since its 2016 kick-off.
Presale opportunities begin Tuesday 12 March from 1pm, with general public tickets on sale via Ticketmaster Monday 18 March at 3pm.
Every ticket purchased includes a choice of standard physical or standard digital copy of the band’s 10th and current album, Hardwired…To Self-Destruct. And all tickets will include a free MP3 download of the show(s) attended, mixed and mastered by the team behind Hardwired…To Self-Destruct.
Formed in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, Metallica has become one of the most influential and commercially successful rock bands in history, having sold 110 million albums worldwide while playing to millions of fans on literally all seven continents.
They have scored several multi-platinum albums, including 1991’s Metallica (commonly referred to as The Black Album), with sales of nearly 17 million copies in the United States alone, making it the best-selling album in the history of Soundscan.
Metallica has also garnered numerous awards and accolades, including nine Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, and multiple MTV Video Music Awards, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in 2009.
In December 2013, Metallica made history when they performed a rare concert in Antarctica, becoming the first act to ever play all seven continents all within a year, and earning themselves a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.
WorldWired Tour special guests Slipknot are at once popular and critically recognised, despite their unflinching and uncompromising pursuit of their art.
Emerging at the back end of the 20th Century from the US midwestern town of Des Moines, IA the band’s 1999 eponymous debut album is widely regarded as a modern day classic and was honoured by Metal Hammer magazine as the ‘Best Debut of the Last 25 Years.’ The release quickly racked up double RIAA platinum certification in the US, with many of SLIPKNOT’s subsequent releases achieving platinum status around the globe.
The band have been nominated for 10 Grammy Awards (winning in 2006 for ‘Before I Forget’), as well as scoring 13 Platinum and 44 Gold record certifications around the world, 30 million-unit sales and more than 2.5 billion YouTube views to date.
In Australia, the band have an equally commanding position with three of their five releases achieving Platinum status, two Gold and four albums debuting at the top end of the ARIA chart.
So whether you have to beg, steal or borrow, you cannot miss Metallica’s WorldWired Tour Saturday 26 October at Stadium Australia, or you will be Unforgiven!
