the ALeague Grand Final rematch between Sydney FC and Melbourne City on Wednesday 30 December as part of an 18-game, eight day Festival of Football to open season 2020/21.

The Stadium will also host Sydney FC v Western Sydney Wanderers in a fierce Sydney Derby on Saturday 16 Januaryin another summer blockbuster event.

The Sydney FC v Melbourne City event will be a Double-Header, with the clubs also doing battle in the W-League competition on the same evening.

The 2020/21 season will commence with a historic opening day Double-Header at Bankwest Stadium, with Western Sydney Wanderers hosting expansion club Macarthur Rams in their A-League debut after the Wanderers host Melbourne Victory in the W-League earlier in the night.

Head of Leagues, Greg O’Rourke said: “We are kicking off with a summer of football – a December start, games broadcast six days a week, and more young, Australian talent on the pitch than ever before, with more than 40 Olyroos and Young Socceroos and Matildas in the two leagues.

“We’ve always had an ambition to align to the A-League and W-League seasons, so to be able to do that this year is a big step forward. The later than usual season start also means that we have more alignment with the rest of the game.

“This has been one of the most challenging fixture processes we’ve ever been involved in because of the continually evolving restrictions, but our priority has always been bringing the best football to fans in the safest way, working with all our stakeholders to do so.”

All events at Stadium Australia will be staged in alignment with NSW Public Health Orders at the time.
