THEY are the undisputed Hyundai A-League champions, considered by many as one of the best club teams ever seen in Australia . . . and now Sydney FC are gearing up to take on the might of English Premier League clubs Liverpool FC and Arsenal FC in Stadium Australia blockbusters.
Sydney FC capped a record-breaking 2016/17 A-League season with a dramatic penalty shoot-out win over Melbourne Victory.
But the club’s football goals are far from over in 2017, with their biggest crowds of the season to witness their two games against EPL giants Liverpool and Arsenal.
Sydney FC manager Graham Arnold was proud of his team keeping EPL champions Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur to 1-0 scorelines at Stadium Australia in 2015, and clearly he has a better squad on show for the 2017 campaign.
Of course, Sydney FC also famously upstaged David Beckham’s LA Galaxy 5-3 in front of a capacity crowd in 2007, so have a proud record in football classics at Stadium Australia.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will bring his first team squad to Sydney straight after the EPL season concludes . . . well aware that Sydney FC poses a challenge for his well-performed Reds.
Four Liverpool FC Legends – all in great physical condition – will join them in Sydney as the club celebrates its 125-year anniversary.
Superstars Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Daniel Agger and Steve McManaman will join the first team on the pitch at Stadium Australia.
Steven Gerrard said: “It will be an honour to pull on the Red shirt and play football with an outstanding first-team squad and former teammates – this is what Liverpool is all about, celebrating the family that has been around for 125 years.
“Our fans in Australia always give us a warm welcome so it’ll be a great feeling to see the Stadium Australia turn red on 24 May.”
Or SKY BLUE, as the case may be, as Sydney FC fans turn out in force to celebrate their club’s extraordinary year.
The northern end of Stadium Australia will become the famous Kop as Liverpool’s most loyal fans welcome their team to Sydney.
However, Sydney FC fans will also turn out in number and take up residency in the south of the Stadium.
In July, Arsenal FC will arrive in Sydney for back-to-back blockbusters against Sydney FC (Thursday 13 July) and Western Sydney Wanderers (Saturday 15 July).
The Gunners bring the Emirates Stadium experience to Stadium Australia, with themed supporter areas and bars to give fans an authentic Gunners event-day experience.
The northern stands of Stadium Australia will be transformed into the club’s celebrated North Bank for Gunners fans with supporters of Sydney FC (Thursday night) and Western Sydney Wanderers (Saturday night) taking over the southern stands, which will become The Clock End – just as it is at Emirates Stadium in North London.
Make sure you are part of most anticipated sporting events in Sydney this year!
