The Sydney Super Cup football extravaganza set down for Sunday 20 November is another jewel in the crown of an action-packed 2022-23 Event Calendar at Accor Stadium that will thrill fans who have been deprived of world-class sport and entertainment for the past two years. Accor Stadium Members get this event, and so many others, as part of their 2022 Membership.
Football takes centre stage at Accor Stadium as soon as Thursday 24 March when Australia’s Socceroos play Japan in a FIFA World Cup Qualifier (8pm kick-off) – the winner one step closer to direct qualification to Qatar 2022.
The Socceroos have qualified for the World Cup three times at the Stadium and the game against the Samurai Blue again promises to be a Where Were You moment in Australian sport.
AFL returns to Accor Stadium this Saturday 19 March with a Round 1 AFL blockbuster Sydney Derby between Greater Western Sydney Giants and the Sydney Swans (5pm First Bounce). The last time the two Sydney clubs faced off at Accor Stadium was the unforgettable 2016 AFL Qualifying Final played in front of 60,222, with the Giants triumphant by six goals. A huge crowd is anticipated for the season opener.
NRL footy action kicks off Sunday 19 March when the resurgent Canterbury Bulldogs line up against the Brisbane Broncos, with former Rabbitoh Adam Reynolds making his return to the ground where he has had so much success – this time in a Broncos jersey. (6pm kick-off).
It’s the first of five home games for the Bulldogs at Accor Stadium in season 2022, with the club building back better following key off-season signings in Josh Addo-Carr, Matt Burton, Matt Dufty, Paul Vaughan and Tavita Pangai Jr.
The Bulldogs will be the away team for one of the NRL’s most anticipated annual clashes – the Good Friday NRL blockbuster against old rivals the South Sydney Rabbitohs on 15 April, which will be played in conjunction with the Sydney Royal Easter Show at Sydney Olympic Park.
The Good Friday classic is one of nine home games for the Rabbitohs in season 2022 – the first under new head coach Jason Demetriou following the departure of Wayne Bennett. The Rabbitohs open their season at home with a Round 3 grudge match against the Sydney Roosters on Friday 25 March (8pm kick-off).
In a year of many highlights at Accor Stadium, mark down Wednesday 8 June for a very special event . . . the all-important Game 1 of the Ampol State of Origin series. Blues coach Brad Fittler has called on the Blues’ army of fans to turn Accor Stadium into a Blues fortress for Game 1.
The NRL Finals kick off in September with the season culminating with NRL Grand Final day on Sunday 2 October.
It’s not all about big sporting action at Accor Stadium in 2022. After two bleak years impacted by the global pandemic, the good news is the big concerts are returning to Sydney’s home of major events.
It was HUGE news this week with the announcement that record-breaker Ed Sheeran is returning to the Stadium where he sold out three shows to 80,000-plus fans in 2018.
Ed Sheeran will bring his Mathematics Tour to Accor Stadium on Friday 24 February with Accor Stadium Members getting an exclusive pre-purchase window! General tickets are on sale 23 March.
And this time Ed will set up his amazing stage in the centre of Accor Stadium – with an In-The-Round seating configuration that will take capacity close to 100,000!
Legendary rockers Guns N’Roses will play at the Stadium on Sunday 27 November before another Hall of Fame band Foo Fighters will light up Olympic Park on Monday 12 December.
Remember too that Accor Stadium Members will have an exclusive pre-purchase window to the highly anticipated FIFA Women’s World Cup games in 2023, with Accor Stadium to host the Final.
