Inaugural Fernhill Picnic Day: A Day For Everyone

Nikkie Beltran

WHAT better way to mark the last day of Melbourne Cup Carnival than at Sydney’s first ever country race meeting with something for everyone.

Introducing Fernhill Picnic Day – a unique event where history meets present-day luxury and family-fun.

Hosted for the first time on Saturday 9 November at beautiful Fernhill Estate, in conjunction with Stadium Australia and Hawkesbury Race Club, Fernhill Picnic Day is an event for everyone that is set on almost 2000 historic acres within the scenic country surrounds of Mulgoa Valley, less than one hour from Sydney CBD.

In an exciting addition, Aussie rock legend James Reyne will perform at next month’s historic Fernhill Estate picnic race day. The former Australian Crawl frontman is the latest coup for the highly anticipated picnic event.

Be a part of history as 2GB’s Ray Hadley calls the inaugural six-race program, including the feature race of the day the $25,000 Fernhill Cup. The first picnic race is scheduled for 1.10pm, and the last at 5.10pm.

Full tote and bookmaker facilities are available on course, plus all of the excitement of the final day of Melbourne Cup Carnival will be broadcast live on the big screens.

The fanfare is not just contained on-course. Off-field there is something for everyone, including fashion spotting with prizes for best dressed – like corporate tickets to the highly-anticipated Bon Jovi concert at Stadium Australia in December, free kids activities, live music, an array of local and international cuisine and more.

You won’t want to miss this fun-filled occasion, rich in history that strikes you as soon as you enter the grounds.

Fernhill Estate is steeped in tradition and equestrian legacy dating back to the early 18th century, having produced winners of the Melbourne Cup in both 1877 (Chester) and 1880 (Grand Flaneur).

A hidden gem, but the idyllic location is certainly not difficult to get to. Free shuttle buses will be running for the occasion from convenient transport hubs, including Penrith Paceway and Penrith train station. A taxi rank will also be located on the premises.
