THE NSW Blues’ fanatical supporter group Blatchys Blues will be supercharged for the crucial NRL Holden State of Origin Game II at Stadium Australia, with Next Generation wig technology set to revolutionise the fan experience and create an amazing atmosphere on Wednesday 21 June.
Major sponsor and official home of the NSW VB Blues, The Star Sydney, will launch the most innovative fan experience product in Australian sport . . . the new Blatchys Blues SMARTWiG.
The Blatchys SMARTWiG, powered by The Star, will be available exclusively to 12,000 Star Blatchys ticket holders at Stadium Australia.
Australia’s largest and most passionate supporter group, The Star Blatchys Blues, is recognised for its iconic blue wig.
The Star has given the humble wig a supercharged upgrade with an LED antenna to light up when the lights go down and an in-built headphone connecting wearers to SMARTWiG radio.
The radio will deliver wearers with six hours of customised radio programming including Triple M’s expert commentary and live call of the on-field action during the game.
Before kick-off Blues legends Nathan Hindmarsh and Bryan Fletcher will talk to past NSW legends and take listeners into the NSW sheds to hear from NSW VB Blues head coach Laurie Daley.
NSWRL Head of Commercial, Jodie Cross, said: “It is a great way for our fans to experience the game and the first time any Australian sport has been able to implement an activation like this.
“It’s something you can’t get in your lounge room. It’s a Blatchys Blues exclusive benefit; you have to be at the game to experience it.”
“Hindy and Fletch” will also speak directly to the Blatchys via the SMARTWiG throughout the game, ensuring the Blatchys Blues are one of the most coordinated supporter groups, by moving, chanting and cheering as one.
The campaign, an idea created by The Star, has been made possible through a unique partnership involving The Star Sydney, NRL, NSWRL and Triple M.

The Star Sydney will also be ignited with Blues fever for Origin I (31 May) and Origin III (12 July) at Suncorp Stadium, with exclusive on-property celebrations including appearances by NSW Origin legends providing real-time game commentary, cheerleaders and all the live Origin action on the giant screens in Sydney’s only 24/7 Sports Bar.
