RIVAL home clubs the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and South Sydney Rabbitohs will play for the Mortimer-McCarthy Cup at Accor Stadium on Sunday evening while raising money for the Men of League Foundation.
The famous Mortimer brothers are a core part of the history of the proud Bulldogs club, with Steve Mortimer playing a record 272 first-grade games for Canterbury. Brothers Peter (190 games) and Chris (191 games) are also Bulldogs club legends and the three brothers played in four Grand Finals together.
Bob McCarthy is a South Sydney legend who played 211 games for the Rabbitohs, but he also played 40 games for the Bulldogs in seasons 1976-77 before finishing his career in the Cardinal and Myrtle.
A rollicking charity function will be held for the Men of League Foundation in the Legends Room at Accor Stadium on Sunday, with the event kicking off from 3pm – ahead of the official Gates Open time of 3:45pm. Comedy duo Rob and Tahir will entertain guests on a special afternoon of football and fun.
The Bulldogs and Rabbitohs have featured in some amazing games at Accor Stadium (Stadium Australia) over the years with the annual Good Friday game historically attracting one of the largest Sydney NRL attendances of the season.
Earlier this year, the Rabbitohs won the Good Friday tussle 36-16 in front of a crowd of 30,194, but the Bulldogs return as the home club in Round 18.
Bulldogs and Rabbitohs Members will enjoy reciprocal membership rights to Sunday’s game, but with Bulldogs Members seating on the western side of the Stadium.
